Komica Anchal: Regional Industry, Music Albums are a Springboard for Actors Like Us

Having been bitten by an acting insect, Komica Anchal withdrew from her engineering course a year later to pursue her passion. Now that she has settled well in Mumbai and is working in South Indian films, she feels that the risk was worth it.

"I was good at studying and my parents wanted me to major in engineering, so I completed the exam and got admission to Dehradun. A year later, I was inclined to modeling and after that I decided to quit. At first, it was difficult to convince my parents, but they quickly understood it, and so far they have remained by my side. To follow the fashion show, Anchal moved to Bengaluru in 2019. "I have done a lot of shows in the South including Fashion Weeks and started presenting TVC. As soon as I was in front of the camera, I thought about acting as my next step and moved to Mumbai. I trained under acting instructor Parag Mehta and did workshops in the south as well."
Anchal was first set with Kannada. "Calling a Temporary Address is a big movie versus Diganth Manchale and Tarun Chandra. We shot the film in 2022 and maximum shooting was done in Dehradun and Oli. I learned Kannada for the film and now I'm learning Telugu and Tamil too. I am getting some offers and looking for more opportunities in sandalwood and other regional industries.
Anchal feels for the actors that it is a difficult world there. "Look, I come from a small town (Vishali, Bihar) and I don't have a godfather in the industry. I definitely want to make Indian movies, OTT projects, or some good TV shows but the opportunities are limited. I've been working as a model and have TV commercials to rely on and my parents' support, and it's very hard to survive in Mumbai. Industry albums and regional music are a springboard for actors like us. I hope it translates into a bigger project in Hindi and India."

Speaking about her music videos, she said, "I also made a music video for Ma Durge vs. Saath Nibhana Sathiya actor Vishal Singh which was released during Durga Puja followed by Teri Ben Sagney's love anthem." "I believe in myself and keep testing. Tests and rejections are the biggest learning for newcomers. Besides, I work on improving my fitness, acting skills, dancing, and more.
